Google expands support for NewBoCo education and startup programs

Google has deepened its financial commitment to NewBoCo, the Cedar Rapids nonprofit that runs K-12 computer science programs and entrepreneur accelerators from its New Bohemia headquarters. The company began with foundational support for CoderDojo and Girls Who Code Clubs in late 2025, then added funding in early 2026 for Computer Science Professional Development Week, Summer Code Camp, ENTREFest, the Iowa Startup Accelerator Spring Demo Day, and the NewBoCo Startup Sprint.

The expanded Google backing anchors a broader funding picture that includes Hy-Vee, Quick Action Accounting, and Nyemaster Goode contributing to ENTREFest 2026, while Renew Rural Iowa and the City of Iowa City donated in late 2025. Van Meter Inc. gave in early 2026 to underwrite NewBoCo's Quarterly Entrepreneur Luncheons, which aim to give local founders a regular space to connect and share resources.

"The generosity of our partners allows us to dream bigger for Iowa's future," said Jill Wilkins, NewBoCo's executive director. "This diverse group of supporters understands that investing in both our current entrepreneurs and our future workforce is the only way to build a sustainable, tech-forward economy."

Samantha Dahlby, NewBoCo's director of education, said the dollars translate directly into classroom impact. "These funds directly translate into more confidence for Iowa educators and more opportunities for students. Whether it is through CSPD Week or our student programs, we are ensuring that Iowa's youth are not just consumers of technology, but the creators of it."

NewBoCo operates as a 501(c)(3) at 460 12th Ave SE in the New Bohemia district. Its programming spans both sides of the talent pipeline: student-facing initiatives like CoderDojo, Girls Who Code Clubs, and Summer Code Camp, and founder-facing events including ENTREFest, the Iowa Startup Accelerator, Startup Sprint, and the quarterly luncheons. The organization also provides coaching and mentoring services.

Dollar amounts for the grants and donations were not disclosed. Dates, venues, and registration details for ENTREFest 2026, the ISA Spring Demo Day, Startup Sprint, the quarterly luncheons, CSPD Week, and Summer Code Camp have not been announced.
