Pleasant July weather in Cedar Rapids to give way to 90s heat

Cedar Rapids and Linn County residents have a short window to enjoy below-normal temperatures before a significant warmup brings high humidity and temperatures in the 90s this weekend, according to KCRG.

According to KCRG meteorologist Justin Roberts, daytime highs today and Friday will hold in the mid to upper 70s under partly cloudy skies, with overnight lows dipping into the upper 50s and low 60s.

"Comfortable weather and below-normal temperatures continue for just a few more days!" the KCRG report noted.

Conditions will begin to shift on Saturday, July 25, as temperatures climb to the mid to upper 80s with overnight lows in the upper 60s to low 70s according to the timeline. By Sunday, July 26, highs are expected to reach the low to mid 90s alongside dew points in the low to mid 70s, which the forecast notes could push heat index values close to 100 degrees.

The forecast states that hot and muggy conditions will persist into early next week. Specific heat index values reaching roughly 100 degrees on Sunday, along with exact storm timing, have not been confirmed by independent weather services.

For outdoor plans and energy use across Linn County, the incoming heat will be accompanied by limited relief. The network reported that the region will remain drier than normal through the end of July, with the best chance for passing storms arriving Sunday night into early Monday morning, followed by another chance Monday night. A slight drop in heat and humidity is anticipated by the middle to end of next week.
