Vehicle crashes into Cedar Rapids hotel; driver uninjured, officials say

A vehicle crashed into the Homewood Suites hotel in Cedar Rapids on Thursday afternoon, but the driver walked away without injury, according to the Cedar Rapids Fire Department.

Fire crews were dispatched at 12:58 p.m. to the hotel on the 1100 block of Park Place NE, the department said. The exact address of the Homewood Suites by Hilton Cedar Rapids-North is 1140 Park Place NE.

When firefighters arrived, they found the vehicle resting halfway inside the first floor of the four-story hotel, according to KCRG.

Crews removed the driver from the vehicle. The driver was uninjured and no medical treatment was required, the fire department said. No one was displaced from the hotel as a result of the crash, and damage was limited to a single unit, according to the same report.

Cedar Rapids police, Area Ambulance Service and the City of Cedar Rapids Building Department also assisted at the scene, CBS2Iowa reported.

The crash remains under investigation, according to the fire department. Officials have not released the driver's identity, the type of vehicle involved, or what caused the crash.
